In Beyond Discipline, Alfie Kohn provides a wonderfully thought-provoking examination of why traditional methods of educating and motivating children through control should no longer be tolerated. Kohn believes that children should be respected as the human beings that they are. He advocates that children should be empowered and educated to become cooperative and collaborative problem solvers in creating their classroom community, rather than forced to comply with the confines of educators and administrators. Beautifully respectful and inspirational for those educators who believe that the word “discipline” means to teach, not control or force conformity.
